Re: San Felipe for New Year's
Mon, December 19, 2005 - 10:14 PMI went three years ago to ditch the family for Christmas.
It was chillier than I expected. New Years was pretty quiet.
I wouldn't go there expecting to party.
Mind you we still had a good time, just a quiet time.
You might want to spend some more time in the car and check out things South on the other side. San Felipe doesn't have a whole lot to offer (except peace and quiet).
Lonely Planet has a great guide book on Baja, I'd check it out.

Re: San Felipe for New Year's
Tue, December 20, 2005 - 5:47 PMI did NYE last year in Gonzaga Bay, another 100 miles south of San Felipe. Alfonsina's motel was booked and it was all gringos. They had a nice turkey dinner for everyone, for free. Fireworks on the beach, too. Very few actually stayed up till midnight though. It was beautiful to be out on the beach at night with only the stars and the moon... more men than women showed up... made it a bit awkward since it's kind of romantic out there...
San Felipe seemed to be filled up with people visiting at the same time. I didn't see much in the way of NYE celebrations in San Felipe except for the Lighthouse Restaurant, which has a $60 or $100 a plate dinner with live music and dancing. Formal event. I would imagine it will be the same thing this year. I hear the Lighthouse Restaurant was worth it, last year...
Have fun! It should be a fairly quiet evening, and quite chilly at night. Fireworks might spice it up, along with a very good bottle of Mezcal or maybe some Agavero...

Re: San Felipe for New Year's
Fri, January 13, 2006 - 6:38 PMWe did go, and yes it was quiet. We drove our RV and stayed at the RV park at La Ventana, walking distance to the beach. We had a great time.
Since we did not have another vehicle to go into town, we celebrated on the beach. There was a some really nice fire works displays on the beach as well as others other nearby campsites/beaches.
San Felipe downtown is very small, nonetheless they have a decent amount of restaurants and bars along the Sea of Cortez, no doubt a little more lively than the beach, but I don't know :)
